TEL AVIV—The Israeli military is pouring resources into the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Younis to neutralize Hamas’s top brass as the death toll from the operations surpasses 20,000.
Over a nearly two-month-long ground offensive, Israel has taken over much of Gaza City, eroded Hamas’s control of the strip’s 2.2 million people and reduced many of the enclave’s buildings to rubble. But the military has yet to find Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar or his closest confidants.
